FPSO
Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units are complex floating facilities, typically based on converted oil tanker hulls, designed to process hydrocarbons directly at sea. They receive crude oil, gas, and water from subsea wells, perform onboard separation and treatment, store the produced oil, and offload it to shuttle tankers for transport to refineries. FPSOs enable oil and gas production in deepwater and remote offshore locations where fixed platforms or pipelines are not economically viable.
The success and safety of an FPSO rely heavily on highly detailed and well-coordinated engineering design, as these units integrate large-scale processing equipment, extensive piping networks, structural steel outfitting, electrical and control systems, and complex safety-critical installations within limited space. The interaction between production systems, storage tanks, utilities, and marine systems requires precise planning to ensure operational efficiency, redundancy, maintainability, and compliance with strict offshore regulations.
Smart Design 2006 plays a key role in the detailed design of FPSO units, delivering advanced 3D modelling and engineering solutions that cover steel outfitting, piping systems, cable trays, and HVAC design. These elements are essential for safe fluid handling, structural integrity, fire protection, accessibility, and overall operational reliability. Through coordinated detailed design, Smart Design 2006 ensures that all onboard systems are efficiently integrated, constructible, and optimized for long-term offshore operation in demanding environments.
